11th Lux Style Award Nominations Announced

Nominations for the 11th Lux Style Awards in 26 categories were announced in Karachi last week. Referred to as Pakistan’s most credible and coveted Awards, Lux Style prides itself with commitment to style and glamour. LUX hosted the first ever LUX Style Awards in 2002 which ended up being slated as “One of Pakistan’s biggest milestones; the initiation of what has become a yearly event.” The show celebrates style in Pakistan and pays tribute to the fashion, film, television and entertainment industry.
37 Million people tune into the Lux Style Awards every year. Considered as a hybrid of Oscars, Grammy, Emmys and VH1 awards, they bring together all the disciplines of Pakistani showbiz for one night of recognition and celebration. The performances are energetic, colourful, complemented by style icons and sheer glamour.
Over the years, Lux Style awards have demonstrated the vibrant and colourful aura that surrounds the style industry in Pakistan. Here is the official 10 year montage from Lux Style’s official Youtube page:

During the Award shows and over the years, younger artists have paid glowing tributes to the legends and pioneers that build Pakistan’s musical heritage.
Here is one such moment when Atif Aslam paid tributes to Reshma.

The award show paid tribute to the late Nazia Hassan as well in 2006 with this performance:

This year the awards will be held mid-summer (2012) and will be televised at a later date on Satellite Television (via Pakistani broadcast media).
The Film Jury this year voted for ‘Bol’ across all three categories. Shoaib Mansoor’s ‘Bol’ was the sole film that made the grade and qualified as a bonafide entrant for an award that is given out for excellence in cinema. There were no other nominations in the Film category.
Best Film
Bol – Shoaib Mansoor
Best Film Actor
Manzar Sehbhai – Bol
Best Film Actress
Humaima Malick – Bol
Public voting for TV and Music categories to decide the winner for the 11th LUX Style Awards will commence later this month. Fashion Jury members will be voting for the ten Fashion Categories.
After the nominations were announced, social media and microblogs were abuzz with the fact that the extremely popular “Humsafar” did not even make it to the nominations list. We reviewed Humsafar earlier this year as it made history by making it from Pakistan’s local (HUM) TV airwaves to drawing room discussions from Toronto to Sydney and into the twitter-sphere.

Clarification from Lux Style Awards regarding Humsafar

For a serial to qualify for LSA Nomination, its airing should be such that, at least 3/4th of the serial (75%) must be aired during the previous calendar year (the year we judge) i.e 2011 in this case. However Humsafar’s airing was 50% in 2011 and 50% in 2012. Hence it automatically qualifies Humsafar as a potential nominee for next year, BUT NOT THIS YEAR.
Whereas, the criterion for a song to qualify for LSA Nomination is that, it must be released in the previous calendar year (2011). As the Humsafar OST was released last year, hence it qualifies as a nominee in the Music Category.
